Iron Ore to Steel
TMT bars in Jalna are made from iron ore, coal, and dolomite as raw materials. In this process, raw materials are piled, recovered, and mixed in the required proportions.

The length of the continuous billets coming out of the CCM is determined by the length required.
Thermo Mechanical Treatment
This is the final manufacturing process for TMT steel rebars.
Rolling – The heated billet passes through three stands in a reduction mill: roughing, intermediate, and finishing, where the rolling mill reduces the thickness and lengthens the overall length.
Quenching – When the hot rolled bar exits the final finishing rolling stand, it is immediately passed through a water quenching system, where water sprays cause the rebars’ surfaces to cool and harden quickly. While the surface hardens as a result of the rapid cooling, the inner core remains hot and malleable.
Self-Tempering – After passing through the quenching system, the core remains hot and continues to transfer heat to the outer surface; this is known as self-tempering, and it transforms the outer layer into Tempered Martensite.
Atmospheric cooling – Finally, the steel bars are placed on a cooling bed and allowed to cool naturally. This allows the soft, inner austenitic core to be transformed into a ferrite-pearlite structure. As a result, the finished product has a tough hard order layer and a ductile core.
